In Their Genes
2002, 120" x 90"
machine pieced and quilted
commercial cottons
A wedding
gift for two scientist friends. One of them studies ancient human DNA, the
other evolution. There is a secret message coded into the DNA. Each set of
three base pairs (rungs of the ladder) codes for a single amino acid. Each
amino acid has a one-letter abbreviation. I sent them a post card to help
them decode the quilt.
This
quilt was shown at the 2002 Pacific International Quilt Festival, a juried
competition held annually in Santa Clara, CA.
